Minutes of monthly meeting held 11th May 2010
Held at Gannets Bar, Haumoana - meeting opened at 7.38pm
Present: Rex Mildenhall, Andy Heyward. Fiona Rainbow, Ian Chapman, Rod Heaps
Apologies:
Minutes from last meeting moved by Rex and seconded by Andy
Incoming Correspondence: Nil
General Business:
Beach Clean Up: Ian participated in the clean-up at the Cape Kidnappers end. He said there was heaps of rubbish collected at that end. Ian had tried to contact and co-ordinate with the council but got no reply.
Mid-Winter Bonfire: Ian said it would better to have the surfcasting competition in November as there was no point in having a fishing comp when there was no fish around. It would be better to make it more of a kahawai comp than snapper.
The clean up was discussed and it was stated that it needs to be done better this year.
Rex said he will get some prizes from Reece at Haumoana Fish and Chip shop, some wood for the bonfire, Rubbish Bins and bring the BBQ.
Ian will organise the mulled wine and do the shopping. Need to buy sausages, bread, sauce, onions and wine.
Andy will donate a couple of shirts for prizes.
Need to organise who is doing what job at next meeting and who is available. Possibly need to organise to collect wood in the morning. Pallets or driftwood?
Amalgamation: Rod said an incorporated body of both TAPA and Haumoana Ratepayers would be stronger and able to fight for both communities. There was roughly 6 or 7 active members of TAPA. WOW has their own agenda and when that issue is resolved will be moving forward under the Cape Coast banner. The beach and lifestyle was common to both communities and they both had the same issues. It makes sense to operate as one.
Roundabout: Melanie asked Rod to raise the issue of the intersection at Mill Road and Richmond Road. There was another accident last week - 2 cars t-boned. The statistics of incidents at the intersection has been given to councillors. Unfortunately submissions closed for the annual plan yesterday but there is a possibility that late submissions will be heard, Rod was going to find out if this was the case. Requests for something to be done at the intersection (either a roundabout or large signage) is falling on deaf ears and it seems that someone will be killed at the intersection before anything is done as in the case of the roundabout at Lawn Road and Mill Road.
Gum Tree Corner Signage: Debate has been happening about the signs at Gum Tree Corner. Council has been active in removing roadside signage in the area, especially the signs at the entrance to Haumoana. Save the Cape Coast signs seems to be targeted also. As a solution Council have consented and will fund two big community signs, one just after the small bridge as you turn into Haumoana and one at East Rd. Who will police these signs and what is allowable is unclear at this stage. More information is needed. If we don’t have a say in what these signs will look like then council will do what they want and that is not always in the best interests of the community. Consultation with local organisations and groups is seriously lacking.
Miscellaneous: Fiona said that Minutes of the meetings were looking flash and Rex seconded her statement.
Fiona also said “Sort your F$%en C*#t language out, Rod”.
Andy reported the Trudi had sent him the database of the member drive. Printout presented.
Meeting closed at 8.05pm
